Cancer Services

PHU has a designated cancer centre treating a wide range of cancers and haematology disorders for patients aged over 16 years who live in southern Hampshire and some parts of West Sussex. It has close links with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and cancer services based in Chichester and the Isle of Wight. Adults diagnosed with very rare cancers and children diagnosed with cancer are normally referred to the specialist centres in Southampton and London for their treatment. New patients to the service will be referred via other specialities within PHU, from other NHS Trusts or your GP.

You may hear or read some other terms such as Haematology and Oncology and these mean:

Haematology is the medical specialty involved in diagnosing and treating patients with blood disorders. These disorders can be either cancerous or non-cancerous.

Oncology is the medical specialty that treats those patients who have been diagnosed with cancer.

PHU also has a Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre which is available to all patients, family and anyone affected by cancer. The Centre is located on B Level, next to the Haematology and Oncology Outpatients waiting area, by lift area 2.
