Having worked in the Trust for 25 years I have had various interesting admin roles my first being in the Education Centre at St Mary’s Hospital working for the Clinical Tutor and subsequently the Director of Medical & Dental Postgraduate Education when the Centre was re-located to QAH carrying out a variety of roles including helping set up the very first pilot ALERT™ courses in 1999 before rolling them out in 2000 and subsequently to Course Centres Nationally and Internationally, organising production of course materials and producing flyers, programmes and keeping our websites up to date. In 2003 I moved into our newly developed Simulation Suite based in the TEAMS Centre, QuAD, originally led by Professor Gary Smith who wrote the ALERT™ course for multi-disciplinary health professionals which now runs in over 100 course centres. I also help organise courses in our recently opened VIMARS Suite also based in the QuAD Centre where Health Professionals can practice their surgical skills! We offer Surgical Skills courses endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons attracting candidates nationally & internationally.
My role is extremely varied and busy but very enjoyable – I enjoy organising courses and meeting with candidates and Faculty.
In 2006 I was nominated and subsequently won The Chairman’s award for Excellence which was a huge privilege.
The ALERT® team were also nominated and subsequently won Pride of Portsmouth award for Education & Research in 2021 which was a real honour.
There are so many options and opportunities working at Portsmouth Hospitals and I enjoy the teams I work with. I have also completed various inhouse business training courses and NVQ level 4 in Business Administration at Highbury College.
